Welcome to the Wheelhouse Falkirk May/June newsletter

Its newsletter time again, I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone since the March/April edition. It is now over 5 months since we have opened and it has so far been one incredible journey.

Since the last newsletter there have been a few changes at the restaurant. Our on line reservation system is now fully operational, it is now possible to book your table direct at www.restaurantdiary.com.We have received some fantastic feedback from the many guests that now use the facility on a regular basis, if you have not yet tried this please do its so simple and easy and at a glance will tell you what booking times are available if your first choice has been taken. For my team this has been fantastic as it means that at a glance they can see what tables are available during peak time service for the many guests that arrive at the restaurant without a reservation. This means that more often than not we can provide “walk ins” with either a table straight away or are able to give an estimated time as to when a table will become available.

We also now have our new garden furniture in place. Many of you have been able to enjoy the recent fine weather by eating and drinking alfresco on the patio, the good news is that there is more furniture to arrive and that we will soon have two 4m x 4m heated jumberellas in the garden to help take the chill out of the air and allow our guests to enjoy the alfresco experience long after the spring/summer sun has disappeared. By the first week in June we should have seating outside for 150 covers and all of it is south facing and captures the Falkirk Wheel. To accompany the new extended area we will also be introducing  a Lounge and Garden Snack menu – featuring some of our popular restaurant dishes and a number of  new exciting pub favourites, it will be available from early June and will be served Mon – Sat  from 12 until 6.30pm.

Our new Cocktail List is also on its way we have selected and perfected some of the most popular cocktails we are asked for, along with one or two we occasionally indulge in our self and have put together a new bar and cocktail list this will also be ready from the beginning of June. Not forgetting the many wine lovers that enjoy a glass or two from our extensive list there is new wine list coming out, and as well as featuring many of the favourites that we currently stock there are a few new wines from Spain, Argentina, America and even Tasmania. During the summer months to reflect the increasing popularity of the Rose wines we will have a separate Drink Pink list featuring 6 fantastic Pinks and 3 Pink Sparklers from around the world.

The restaurant menu is also receiving a make over. Also in June we are introducing a new lunch and dinner menu, the menus will retain some of the favourites but will include some new dishes to more suitable for the summer months. We have recently introduced some specials which have been extremely popular and as a result of this we will look to increase our range. Over the past two months some of these have included Applecross Bay Langoustines, Applecross Bay Crab, 16oz Scotch T Bones, Scottish Asparagus and Wild Mushroom Risotto and Mixed Seafood Platter to name a few.

Finally watch out for our new Early Dinner menu we are introducing as special tea time menu from Monday – Friday from 4pm until 6.30pm, it will feature many of the restaurant favourites at a slightly reduced price. We regularly get feedback from our guests saying that it is difficult to book a table as we are so busy at peak times. I have listened to this and will soon launch the new Early Dinner menu that will hopefully allow you to enjoy the Wheelhouse experience earlier in the evening and at reduced rate.

We are looking forward to a busy few months in the restaurant, no doubt that the well documented increase in visitor numbers  to The Falkirk Wheel will have an effect on business, hopefully by introducing our Lounge Snack Menu and the Early Dinner menu we will be able to meet the demands of all of our regular guests and of those visiting for the first time.
